This fee is set low so that folks may also attend Shihan Michael Asuncion’s seminar in Huntsville (details below). If you must choose between this Sword Fundamentals Workshop or Shihan Asuncion’s seminar, we highly recommend that you attend Shihan Asuncion’s seminar in Huntsville!
Topics:
Sword fundamentals drawn from sword seminars over the past couple of years with Shihans Mark Lithgow, Andrew Young, and Luke Molitor. The primary focus will be on etiquette, grip, cutting mechanics, and sword maintenance. We may cover concepts on kamae, some basic drawing, sheathing, blocking and fighting techniques if there is time. Tameshigiri may take a couple of hours depending on how many people are present.
Equipment to Bring:
Bring all your sword related training gear: fukuro shinai,
bokken, iaito, shinken, and cleaning kits. If you bring iaito/shinken,
they will need to be inspected before use. A small hand towel is
recommended for those bringing shinken. Feel free to wear kaku obi
and hakama if you have them.
